The Bujinkan Dojo is an organization created by Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi to preserve the teachings of nine ancient warrior traditions. From the BUJINDEN (the Palace of the Divine Warrior – the international headquarters), Dr. Hatsumi guides thousands of people around the world who train in the wonderful art of BUDO TAIJUTSU. For some years now, the word NINJA has been heard worldwide as a result of publicity generated by film and television. More often than helping to spread the truth and beauty of this art, they have transformed this figure into a malicious entity with traits completely removed from reality. Within the BUJINKAN DOJO, we have tried to change that image; through study and training, we aim to elevate the image of this SUBLIME WARRIOR (BUJIN).
What schools are studied in the Bujinkan Dojo?
These are the RYUHA (Warrior Families or Schools) of which Dr. Hatsumi is the Soke (Grandmaster):
- Togakure Ryu Ninjutsu
- Kumogakure Ryu Ninjutsu
- Gyokushin Ryu Ninjutsu
- Gyokko Ryu Koshi Jutsu
- Koto Ryu Koppo Jutsu
- Gikan Ryu Koppo Jutsu
- Takagi Yoshin Ryu Jutsu
- Shinden Fudo Ryu Dakentai Jutsu
- Kukishinden Ryu Happo Hiken Jutsu
As can be observed, out of the nine traditional families (RYUHA) of BUDO that we train in, only three are NINJUTSU. The rest belong to an elite group of Japanese warrior families with different specialties in combat techniques.
In 1995, Hatsumi Sensei decided to name the union of these nine families BUDO TAIJUTSU.
